Optometry
I first worked as the ‘hello and goodbye’ girl at the front of a busy town centre optometric practice, and this early experience was pivotal to my drive for educating people about eyes, ocular health and vision correction.
Based in Lancashire, my work involves a variety of optometric consultancy roles from writing to staff development. I have worked at the University of Manchester and graduated with a Masters of Philosophy in 2000 and I currently hold the post of Visiting Scientist. I enjoy teaching and lecturing involvement across all three years of the optometry programme, helping undergraduates understand the professional importance of communication skills in addition to forming a firm foundation in contact lens practice.
I have trained hundreds of staff in tailored interactive seminars for front-line staff, dispensing opticians, optometrists and colleagues from industry. My second book, The Complete Optometric Assistant, is a ready-to-use eye and vision guide, packed with everyday information essential to all people working in the eye and vision world.
I offer a wide range of bespoke training for optometric practice, such as day-long and evening seminars focussed on communication and optimising patient care with business outcome. For industry, I speak at conferences and meetings, write journal articles and generate slide decks for professional communications.
